In less than a week after the death of the Congolese Moise Kabagambe reach the headlines of the Brazilian and international press, four letters have already been sent by the National Congress demanding actions on investigations.
At Chamber of Deputiesthe Mixed Commission on Migration and Refugees called the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) calling for the elucidation of the crime and the guarantee of the rights of immigrants and refugees in the country. In the letter, the deputy rapporteur, Túlio Gadelha (PDT-PE) demanded answers from the Attorney General’s Office.
“Taking into account the institutional role of the Public Ministry, especially in defense of the democratic rule of law and in the promotion of Human Rights, it is essential for the agency to act to guarantee the realization of the rights of immigrants and refugees in our country, and to guarantee that the reported cases of violence are correctly and quickly investigated with the punishment of those responsible”, says the document.
The Commission on Human Rights and Minorities of the Chamber of Deputies requested authorization from the Presidency of the House to carry out a follow-up investigation in the Rio de Janeiro and hopes to make a visit on the 14th.
The parliamentarians want to meet with Moïse’s family and representatives of the state government, city hall and the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).
At the federal Senatethe Commission on Human Rights and the Permanent Joint Commission on International Migration and Refugees (CCMIR) made requests for representatives of the Justice ministrythe Congolese Embassy, the OAB-RJ and the National Committee for Refugees.
For the president of CCCMIR, Senator Paulo Paim (PT-RS), “the crime against the Congolese refugee is a reflection of the dehumanization of the black population in Brazil”.
The Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights will send to Rio de Janeiro, next week, the assistant secretary of the National Secretariat for Policies for the Promotion of Racial Equality to follow up on the case.
In Rio, the city government offered the family the management of the memorial that will be created at the place of Moïse’s death. Lawyer Rodrigo Mondego, who represents the victim’s relatives, confirmed to the CNN that the invitation was accepted and that there will be a meeting next Monday (7) with the municipal secretary of Finance, Pedro Paulo, to settle the details.
