The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) transferred, this Thursday (23), the final of the Copa Sudamericana, from the Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasília, to the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium, in Córdoba, Argentina. The date of October 1st has been kept.
The change took place at the request of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) due to the proximity of this year’s elections, which will take place on October 2nd.
“The unanimous resolution was adopted in consultation with the members of the Council, due to the impossibility of holding the match in Brasilia, as initially planned, due to the general elections that will take place in Brazil on October 2”, the entity said in a statement.
Córdoba hosted the final of the competition in 2020, when Defensa y Justícia was crowned champion.
Currently, Sudamericana is in the round of 16, with five Brazilian clubs still in contention: Santos, Internacional, Atlético-GO, São Paulo and Ceará.
