UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday faced a vote of no confidence, sparked by disgruntled lawmakers in his own party.
After about two hours of voting, however, it was decided that the prime minister should remain in office.
Johnson’s leadership has been shaken by the so-called “Partygate” scandal, with months of allegations of parties and gatherings at his government headquarters during various stages of lockdown during the pandemic eroding public confidence.
The prime minister has also been criticized for his response to high inflation.
Under Conservative Party rules, if lawmakers want to get rid of their leader, they send a confidential letter of distrust to the chairman of the 1922 Committee, a group of bench legislators who do not hold government positions.
