The Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry (CBIC) reported that the level of activity in the sector at the end of the third quarter of 2022 is already 12.5% higher than that recorded before the arrival of the pandemic, in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The result is also 24.9% higher than that observed in the second quarter of 2020, when the pandemic effectively spread across Brazil.
As a result, the level of construction activities returned to what it had seen at the beginning of 2016, according to a CBIC survey based on a volume index (seasonally adjusted) of construction GDP and national GDP.
The national economy, in turn, is 3.0% above the pre-pandemic level (fourth quarter of 2019) and reached the second highest level in the series.
Despite the evolution in performance, the CBIC considered that the sector remains 23.7% below its peak of activity, recorded at the beginning of 2014. “This shows that, despite the high, Construction still needs to advance a lot to recover its rhythm activities”, emphasized the CBIC.
