Construction chain sectors will invest BRL 2.7 trillion by 2030, says association

The Brazilian Association of Real Estate Developers (Abrainc) and Deloitte released the study “Productivity and Opportunities for the Civil Construction Chain” this Thursday (8). By 2030, construction chain sectors will invest R$2.7 trillion, generate more jobs and invest in technology to optimize processes.

The forecast is that the three sectors of the construction chain will invest a total of R$ 2.7 trillion in the period from 2021 to 2030 – corresponding to US$ 530 billion, considering the projection for the dollar in this period.

The study was carried out with 144 companies and entities plus IBGE data. “The exchange of information and dialogue with all the links that involve the sector are the way to increase competitiveness”, says Luiz França, president of Abrainc.

In 2021, the study found the existence of 23 thousand companies in the construction chain that generate BRL 2.3 trillion in net revenue. The sector pays R$443 billion in taxes and generates more than 3.7 million jobs.

The chain comprises engineering and infrastructure works, building construction, engineering and infrastructure services, input suppliers and basic industry.

The branch bets on startups to join a more technological ecosystem to optimize costs and productivity. This base expects to increase investments in technology by up to 10% between 2022 and 2023.

They are geared toward training and investment in project-related areas, including development, schedule management, budgeting, and planning functions. The expectation is to gain up to 72% in efficiency with the incorporation of new technologies.

The construction chain adds up to more than R$300 billion in personnel expenses, 44% of which in wages.

There was an increase in the education of civil construction workers between 2007 and 2020. The average rates of illiteracy or basic training fell and those of complete secondary and higher education increased.

For research, there are several challenges to be overcome with the need for improvements in chain integration, use of technology, shortage of suppliers, manpower, supply deadlines and management.

The unpredictability of costs is the main challenge faced by companies in the Construction and Development and Services sectors related to 79% of complaints, in addition to labor efficiency and increased costs.
