The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC) measured by the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the GetĂșlio Vargas Foundation (FGV Ibre) registered an increase of 2.7 points in December, to 88 points, after falling in the last two months.
In quarterly moving averages, the index retreats 0.3 point, to 87.3 points after rising in the last five months, said the institute this Monday (26).
âAfter two months of decline, consumer confidence has risen, recovering part of the losses suffered. The improvement in confidence reflects an increase in optimism in relation to the coming months, mainly for families with lower purchasing power who have been more indebted and suffering more from the effects of inflation and high interest ratesâ, said Viviane Seda Bittencourt, coordinator of polls, note.
The specialist considers that the evaluations about the moment still remain stable, but with a worsening in the perception about the job market, which generates caution in the intention of purchases in the short term. âThe year closes with a positive balance and the losses accumulated in the last two years are erased, but a long way is needed for confidence to overcome the neutral level, stimulating consumptionâ, she says.
