Consumer confidence improves to -8.1 in April, meeting expectations

The Eurozone consumer confidence index improved in April to -8.1 from -10.8 in March (figure revised down from -8.1). The result coincides with market expectations and is the best recorded since February 2020.

The region’s Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) has risen to 110.3 in April from 100.9 in March (revised from 101), notably exceeding the 102.2 expected by experts. This is the third consecutive month of improvement for the indicator and its best record since September 2018.

The industrial confidence has jumped in April to 10.7 from 2.1 in March, improving the estimated 4 points. Meanwhile, the confidence of services also improved, reaching 2.1 after having marked -9.6 the previous month. The result exceeds the -8.7 forecast.
