The National Index of Consumption of Brazilian Homes by the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras) registered a high of 3.02% until October. It is the biggest increase in consumption in the year and the indicator is close to the accumulated growth during the whole of last year (3.04%).
The association’s projection for 2022 is 3% to 3.3% growth.
In October, there was an 8.1% increase in consumption compared to the same month of 2021. In comparison with September 2022, the increase was 6.27%.
The advance payment of social benefits for the second and third weeks of October (11 to 25/10) contributed, according to Abras, to the increase in consumption in homes.
All indicators are deflated by the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), measured by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
“It is remarkable how much the increase in the value of the Auxílio Brasil and the constant inclusion of beneficiaries in conditions of social vulnerability expanded food consumption in this second half and, more expressively, in October. These resources raised consumption close to the accumulated level throughout 2021 and, if maintained, they should help families with lower purchasing power to supply their homes”, analyzes the Institutional Vice President of Abras, Márcio Milan.
