A survey carried out by a residential condominium administrator pointed out that water consumption increased by 10% in the first half of 2021 in condominiums.
The study showed that, in the first six months of 2020, the average consumption was 721 m³ of water, and jumped to 795 m³ in the same period in 2021. Each cubic meter (m³) is equivalent to one thousand liters of water.
Looking at the individual expense of each apartment, last year, consumption was 14 m³, and it rose to 16 m³ this year. A 14% increase in water consumption. The survey showed that the average expense per apartment in 2020 was R$ 95.53. In the first half of 2021, the expense rose to R$ 107.47.
Administrators claim that this increased consumption is a result of the pandemic, since most tenants spent more time indoors.
In the study, the creators suggested the individualization of expenses for each apartment as a fairer way of dividing expenses with water supply.
