Conviction of two Spanish Jesuits in Bolivia for covering child abuse

Two older Spanish Jesuit priests were convicted by a Bolivian court yesterday to one year in prison each, for helping to conceal the crimes of a priest who admitted that he had sexually abused dozens of children about 40 years ago. Eighth Markos Recolons and Ramon Alaich were brought before Justice in 2023 by former College students in Kotsamba (centrally), where priest Alfonso Pedrachas, also a Spanish national, was educational and spiritual. Prior to his death in 2009, the priest recorded in detail in a diary that kept sexually abused 80 children and adolescents in the 1970s and 1980s.
