Cooks give a thousand Christmas dinners to families affected by the pandemic

Due to the covid-19 pandemic, some families lost their loved ones and others their economic stability. For this reason it is likely that they did not have the emotional or financial resources to celebrate Christmas.

For this reason, the non-profit organization Make Food Not Waste in Detroit, United States, undertook the task of bringing together 30 professional chefs, who prepared more than a thousand Christmas dinners that were delivered to families in need.

A chain of help

The organization not only received the help of a select group of chefs, but also some restaurants and food banks joined in to prepare the dishes with all the necessary ingredients.

Many people do not know that they are loved and this is an act of love. If you think about how much food we waste and just throw away, 40 percent of our food never makes it home, never makes it to the table, never makes it to the refrigerator, it just gets thrown away.

Helping others magnifies the heart

After a long day at work, the chefs cooked more than a thousand Christmas dinners with chicken curry dipped in mango sauce, rice pilaf, sautéed collard greens, buttered carrots and baked sweet potatoes.

The dishes were delivered in low-income communities and outside of some hospitals. The action of the organization and of all those who put a grain of sand makes it clear that there are more of us good.
