During COP26, the United Nations (UN) climate conference, this Thursday (4), 77 countries pledged to end the use of coal. Brazil did not join the list, as it does not have a strong contribution to coal emissions…
Although China, India and the United States are the largest emitters of coal in the world, the three countries have not joined the alliance. Politically for them, this action is very complicated and suffers strong resistance, in the analysis of Lourival Sant’Anna, international analyst at CNN.
Coal supplies more than 1/3 of the energy consumed worldwide and is the biggest contributor to climate change, as Sant’Anna explains.
In all, 65% of the Brazilian energy matrix comes from hydroelectric power plants, while natural gas corresponds to 9% of the matrix, wind power also 9%, and 8% biomass. Coals are only 3% of local energy.
