The theme of the day at COP26, in Glasgow, this Thursday (11) was the role of cities and local communities in containing climate change. The representative of Brazil at the conference was the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo).
At the event, he announced the mapping of emissions and carbon capture in the production chain of the 200 largest industries in the state. “Those products that do not have a responsible, green production process will certainly be questioned and even eliminated from some markets,” Zema told CNN.
“Minas Gerais today is already the state in Brazil that has the largest reforested area, the state that generates the most electricity from photovoltaic plants, and all this represents carbon sequestration and also attracts new investments from countries and industries that want to offset their emissions elsewhere,” he added.
The portfolio presented at the conference was created in a partnership between the government of Minas Gerais, the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock and the Federation of Industry of the state. The document contains initiatives, actions and projects aimed at a low-carbon economy and measures to confront and adapt to the effects of climate change.
