A «deforestation – free» chocolate bar: it is the first produced in the world, and was presented by thechocolate craftsman Guido Gobino at the COP27 (the United Nations Conference on Climate Change) in Sharm el-Sheikh, organized by the UN.
It’s a bar of chocolate 70% fondantmade with a cocoa that comes from the Amazonian region of Ecuador: it is the result of the collaboration between Gobino and the Government of Ecuador, the United Nations Development Agency and those associations of Ecuadorian cocoa producers who undertake for fight deforestation and mitigate climate changeworking in an increasingly sustainable way.
The cooperatives that produce the Gobino bar cocoa follow a program promoted by the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition of Ecuador, the REDD+ (Reduction of emissions by deforestation, degradation of forests + conservation of forests, sustainable management, increase in carbon content). It is a plan designed to mitigate climate change and curb deforestation and forest degradation, supporting the activities that reduce the causes of deforestation and promote conservation, sustainable management and recovery of forests and their carbon stocks. The REDD+ program is part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, an international environmental agreement that pledges to give forests back to developing countries.
Ecuadorwhich has a long tradition of cocoa cultivation, is the nation pioneer in the protection of environmental heritage: was one of the first countries to focus attention on the REDD+ program. And today it has every intention of promoting a quality Ecuadorian cocoa, produced with great attention to sustainability. 74% of Ecuador’s forests are located in the Amazon region, where the origin of cocoa is traced. That of the Amazon, which stands out for its hints of flowers and fruits, is produced in an environment with a rich biodiversity and in an agriforest system.
The «deforestation – free» chocolate bars can be found, in a limited edition, in the Gobino shops in Turin and Milan and on the online shop.
