COP27: see which authorities from the current and new government participate in the global event

THE 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27) starts this Sunday (6) in Egypt. The event will bring together government and civil society representatives to discuss challenges and solutions to address climate change.

Brazil will be represented by the entourage of the current government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and by members of the team of the president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who assumes the Presidency of the Republic in 2023 and will attend the event this year.

Among the main objectives of this COP is the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, which generate climate change.

“Mitigation can mean using new technologies and renewable energy sources, making equipment older, more energy efficient or changing management practices or consumer behavior,” explains the UN.

Lula’s entourage

The president-elect will attend COP27 in the third week of November. He goes to Egypt on the 14th, he told CNN the president of the Workers’ Party, deputy Gleisi Hoffmann.

On the first day of COP27, some PT members are also going to Egypt, such as one of the coordinators of the environmental program of Lula’s campaign, environmentalist and federal deputy Nilto Tatto (PT-SP).

The former Minister of the Environment and now elected federal deputy Marina Silva (Rede-SP) and Senator Simone Tebet (MDB) should also be in Lula’s entourage.

Bolsonaro government

Representing the administration of current President Jair Bolsonaro, the Minister of the Environment Joaquim Leite, the Ambassador Secretary for Multilateral Political Affairs Paulino Franco do Carvalho Neto, and Ambassador Leonardo Cleaver de Athayde, director of the Department of Sustainable Development, participate in COP27.

Also participating in COP27, in Egypt, are the following Brazilian authorities:

  • Helder Barbalho, governor of Pará;
  • Gladson Cameli, governor of Acre;
  • Waldez Góes, governor of Amapá;
  • Mauro Mendes, governor of Mato Grosso;
  • Wanderlei Barbosa, governor of Tocantins;
  • Colonel Marcos Rocha, governor of Rondônia;
  • Marcos Penido, Secretary of State for São Paulo;
  • Fernando Chucre, São Paulo’s Secretary of Infrastructure and Environment.
