A project in the Amazon region has been enabling young riverside to work with ecotourism on the Belém Islands during the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30).
The initiative offers a comprehensive training, including practical workshops, experiences and lectures that address topics such as environmental education, entrepreneurship, identification and interpretation of fauna and flora, driving in trails, foreign language and community -based tourism practices.
The program, called “Strengthening of Riverside Youth for Ecological Tourism”, is led by the Federal Rural University of Amazonia (UFRA) in partnership with the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity of the State of Pará (Ideflor-Bio).
During last Tuesday (11), two meetings were held at Casa Ygara and Piriquitaquara Igarapé, located on Combu Island. This Thursday (13), other young people also participated in the immersion, at the Saldosa Maloca restaurant, in the Igarapé do Combu.
According to the Secretary of Tourism of Pará, Eduardo Costa, the initiative aims to value the local culture, preserve the environment and generate economic opportunities for the community.
“We want to promote sustainable tourism, enhancing the natural resources of the region, such as the rich biodiversity and the unique scenarios of the Amazon, as well as create new perspectives for the economic development of riverside communities,” he said.
The idea is that trained young people can act as guides and other functions related to ecotourism during COP30, contributing to the reception of visitors and later with the strengthening of tourism in Pará.
