Corinaldo, the International Center for Women’s Studies is born

A geographical map of the whole world, with the super women of the five continents. On a large globe (three panels of two meters by two), the names of those who have given their important contribution to society, current events, science. To trace an ideal “red thread” that unites great women from all over the world and of all times.

It is one of the initiatives of the International Center for Women’s Studies, which will be open on October 16th in the Marche region, in Corinaldo, in the province of Ancona, between the walls of the former Augustinian convent.

And that will host events, meetings, debates.

The first initiative will be the inauguration of a permanent exhibition featuring 14 female scientists: Ada Lovelace Byron, Caroline Hershel, Emmy Noether, Jane Goodall, Katherine Johson, Margherita Hack, Maria Gaetana Agnesi, Marie Curie, Tu Youyou, Rita Levi Montalcini, Katia Kraff, Hedy Lamarr, Ipazia, Maria Sibylla Merian. A journey to discover the adventurous and romantic stories of the women who have made a fundamental contribution to development of science and, at the same time, women’s emancipation, because they fought to win a place in the world, in spite of a society that wanted them to be submissive and silent and of cultural and ideological barriers.

Through giant comic strips and a series of suggestions, graphics and audio, the difficult entry of the female universe into the world of science will be represented, amidst obstacles and gender prejudices.

The inauguration date is not accidental: October 16 is also the day of birthday, in her native country, of Maria Goretti, one of the first victims of femicide of the twentieth century. It was precisely from her story that the idea of the International Study Center on Women was born, which wants to trigger a cultural change and combat gender-based violence, through study, study and awareness initiatives.

The inauguration of the Study Center will be preceded by a awareness raising on gender issues, with a relay of events which, from 24 September, will culminate with the opening date.
