Corona virus – Sweden: Vaccinations of teenagers are stopped

THE Sweden announced today that ceases to recommend vaccination against the coronavirus of the healthy teenagers aged 12 to 17 because of it “very low risk” of developing severe forms of the disease at this age.

The measure will come into effect on October 31, the Public Health Service clarifies in a statement.

“The decision means that from November 1, the recommendation – and therefore the vaccination proposal – will only apply to minors in high-risk groups for Covid-19,” he says.

As APE-MPE reports, at the beginning of September, the United Kingdom, for its part, lifted its recommendation for vaccination of children under 11 without health problems.

“Overall, we find that the need for treatment related to Covid-19 was low in children and young people during the pandemic and that it also decreased after the appearance of the Omicron variant,” underlines the Swedish Health Service.

For those over 18, the Swedish recommendation is for three doses of vaccine. In the Nordic country, the fourth dose is recommended for over 65s.

Sweden, which implemented a strategy that was overall less stringent than other countries in Europe against Covid-19, saw its death toll rise slightly over the summer but is now falling.

After being above average at the beginning of the pandemic, the Nordic country now records fewer deaths per 100,000 inhabitants than the European average.
