Close to 80,000 children were infected in the US by coronavirus last week, according to the most recent data compiled by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the nation’s Children’s Hospital Association.
Specifically, 79,525 pediatric cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection were reported in the week ending August 18. That’s a number down for the second week in a row (it was 97,000 in the week ending August 4).
This year on USA about 6.5 million children have been infected with the virus, including 358,000 in the last four weeks. Their total number since the onset of the pandemic has reached 14.4 million.according to the data. They correspond to 18.4% of all cases.
