Coronation of King Charles III: Buckingham Palace launches a gin (and cocktail) to celebrate

And so, the British royal family teaches us (finally!) that colors have no gender, if anyone hadn’t figured it out yet. It is in fact delightfully pink the gin just launched by Buckingham Palace to accompany the coronation celebrations of King Charles III, a highly anticipated moment since the departure of the beloved Queen Elizabeth.

The Royal Windsor Pink Ginput on the market these days and described precisely as the “perfect accompaniment” to the day of May 6, is one special gin infused with raspberries hand picked throughout the Royal Windsor Estate which, together with the orange peel and rose petals, give it a «fruity finish» which balances the spicy notes of pink peppercorns and cassia bark.

This new gin adds to the already rich catalog of The Royal Collection Trust, which in 2020 had already seen the incredibly successful launch of London Dry Gin, made with botanicals grown on the palace grounds, including hawthorn berries and mulberry leaves. A gin that sold out in just eight hours, and which convinced the Royal Family that, once again, Queen Elizabeth was right to be the first to believe in the magical power of a Gin Tonic, always been his favorite drink. Carlo also seems to be a fan of gin, even if he prefers to drink it in the Martini version, in his inseparable glass that he is said to carry with him even when he travels.

The coronation cocktail

The advice of the Royal Household is to create a sweet and light drink with Royal Windsor Pink Gin: the procedure is in fact very easy, and is explained directly by the Royal Collection Shop. To create the “Coronation Cocktail” just pour 50 ml of Royal Windsor Pink Gin into a martini glass where some fresh raspberries have previously been crushed. Then 100 ml of pineapple juice is added, et voila, the drink is ready. Strictly to be sipped while the Archbishop of Canterbury places the crown on the head of King Charles.

Royal Windsor Pink Gin is available for purchase (alas, only for the UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand markets) on the The Royal Collection Shop priced at £38. All proceeds from sales will go to The Royal Collection Trust, a charity that looks after the Royal Collection, one of the largest private art collections in the world.
