Charles’s coronation turns two on Tuesday (6). This was the largest ceremonial event of the United Kingdom in seven decades.
Artist Peter Kuhfeld said he imagined the throne room in St. James’s palace as the ideal place for the king’s portrait, adding that he prayed for Sol and “finally managed to do it one day.”

The artist who painted the portrait of the queen, Paul Manning, said he talked a lot with the queen during the process.
“I would have my belly in my hand laughing,” said Manning. “The queen is very witty.”
