Coronavirus – Argentina: Sputnik-V, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines effective in the elderly

The Russian vaccine Sputnik-V was highly effective among people over 60 years of age during the vaccination campaign in Argentina, announced the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), citing research the results of which were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

According to research data, the administration of doses of the Russian vaccine, but also those of AstraZeneca and Sinopharm in people over the age of 60 resulted in reduce mortality among those vaccinated as a percentage 96,6%.

The incidence of infection among those vaccinated also decreased in percentage 88%, during the same investigation and as broadcast by the TASS agency.

The study also states that of the 663.602 of vaccinated, the 63% had made the Sputnik-V vaccine.

According to RDIF, the vaccines showed positive results among people in the age group of 70-79 years and over 80 years, as they showed a reduction in mortality by 98,2% and 94,2% respectively.

The statistical survey was conducted during the period from 1st to June 15, while 81.4% of participants had managed to get at least one dose of one or the other vaccine by May 15 of 2021.

The results of the research were published under the title: Evaluation of a COVID-19 Vaccine Campaign and SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Mortality Among Adults Aged 60 Years And Older in a Middle-Income Country.
