Coronavirus – Britain: Probably to have reliable evidence for Omicron mutation in early January

THE Britain will have reliable data for the spread of the new variant strain Ομικρον of the young coronavirus most likely on early January and probably the week between Christmas and New Year, a British health official said today.

“I think the soonest we have reliable data is the week between Christmas and New Year and probably the beginning of January,” said Susan Hopkins, chief health adviser at the UK Health Insurance Agency.

Susan Hopkins also noted in a parliamentary committee that 15 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant are currently being treated, but pointed out that their number is likely to be much higher.

Hopkins, as reported by the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, noted that experts need to look at data from about 250 people being treated with the new variant executive Omicron to assess its severity compared to the previous Delta executive.

“We start doing this assessment when we start to have enough cases that have been admitted to the hospital so that it can be done and then we do it on a daily basis,” Hopkins said.
