Coronavirus – China: Faced with the largest outbreak in months

Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated in many provinces, including Beijing, authorities in China say. Delta.

According to the Athenian Macedonian News Agency, the China, where covid-19 was first detected at the end of 2019, had managed by the spring of 2020 to almost eliminate the epidemic in its territory. But a recent outbreak of the disease, first identified on July 20 in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing, has spread more than any other in months.

The first cases of covid-19 were detected in nine employees of the airport of the old “capital of the south”. More than 171 people in Shanghai’s Jiangsu Province are positive for SARS-CoV-2, while covid-19 has spread to four other provinces.

The majority of new cases involve people who have already been vaccinated, according to the Jiangsu authorities, raising concerns about the effectiveness of Chinese vaccines against the Delta variant.

China, the world’s most populous country, has already given 1.6 billion doses of covid-19 vaccine (Chinese only), but did not say how many people were fully vaccinated. The goal is to immunize 65% of the country’s population of 1.4 billion before the end of the year.

Another outbreak of covid-19 has been identified in the country on China’s southwestern porous border with Myanmar.

Authorities in Jiangsu have quarantined hundreds of thousands of people, said Lu Zing, a provincial health official.

“Internet cafes, gyms, cinemas, karaoke bars and even libraries in Nanjing are closed,” he said.

A total of 9.2 million people in the city have already undergone two diagnostic tests for coronavirus, while the third test campaign started yesterday, Wednesday, as announced by the Nanking City Hall.

Three new cases of covid-19 were detected today in the vast and densely populated province of Sichuan, and two in Beijing, the first in six months.
