Coronavirus – China: Tough lockdown and test for everyone in Xi’an, home to 13 million people

Panic prevails in China due to the rapid outbreak of coronavirus cases. Authorities imposed a severe lockdown on Wednesday (December 22nd) in the northern Chinese city of Xi’an, which has a population of 13 million just one month before the Beijing Winter Olympics.

Xi’an residents must “stay in their homes unless there is an urgent need” to leave, local authorities said in a statement. one person in each household is allowed to go out shopping “every two days”.

To prevent any spread of the virus, residents will have to stay at home from tomorrow, Thursday, at midnight (18:00 on Wednesday, Greek time), local authorities announced.

Almost everything closes

All “non-essential” businesses, with the exception of supermarkets and medical institutions, were ordered to close due to lockdown which came into force as broadcast by the Athenian News Agency.

Xi’an is known for the famous buried army of terracotta warriors, which is located in the mausoleum of China’s first emperor.

The city had already significantly reduced travel and began conducting diagnostic tests on its entire population on Tuesday.
