Coronavirus – Germany: Majority of citizens in favor of compulsory vaccination

In favor of compulsory vaccination against coronavirus placed the majority of Germans, expressing concern mainly about the possibility of infection of the elderly and unvaccinated children.

According to the weekly “DeutschlandTrend” on behalf of the first channel of the German public television ARD, the 57% respondents is in favor of a general vaccination obligation for citizens over 18 years of age, while the 39% against such a choice.

Last August, on the same question, citizens were divided, with 46% in favor of compulsory vaccination and 50% against.

In terms of the various professions, the 74% considers that their vaccination should be made compulsory sanitary and employees in the field of care for the elderly, according to the RES EIA.

“Against” the far right

Most proponents of compulsory vaccination come from Christian Union voters (CDU/CSU) – with 73% in favor – of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) – 71% “vote” in favor of the obligation.

Following are their voters Greens (56%) and of Liberals (53%).

Among its voters Left, 55% is placed against compulsory vaccination, as did 71% of its voters Alternative for Germany (AfD).

The fears

In the same poll, 57% of respondents worry that they could be infected young children which have not yet been vaccinated.

62% express the same fear for them elderly people, who can get sick more seriously, despite the vaccination.

For the measures

Besides, the 57% respondents consider that, due to epidemiological developments, public life will be limited again, most likely, in the near future and 58% that the Health System will reach its limits again.

The 46% of the respondents considers the measures taken depending on the situation. Only 32% gave the same answer a month ago.

The 29% of the Germans however believes that adequate protection measures are not taken, compared to 13% who believed the same a month ago.
