THE Ireland is now included today (29/12) in the list of countries that broke their previous records of daily cases coronavirus, as it recorded 16,428 new infections, at a time when the number of patients in need of hospital care also began to increase, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.
The last record of infections was recorded on December 24, at 11,182, with the Omicron variant representing almost all cases. At the same time, 568 patients with coronavirus are being treated in hospitals, a number higher than the two-month low of 378 on December 25th.
The number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals peaked at more than 2,000 in January, during the deadliest coronavirus outbreak in the country, when 221 patients filled almost every ICU bed. Today, 93 patients are treated in intensive care units.
“All the latest epidemiological indicators are a cause for concern. “Given the very high levels of the spread across the country, every individual should consider themselves a potential case and strictly adhere to public health measures,” said Chief Tony Holohan.
