Turkey plans to vaccinate 50 million people against Covid-19 by the autumn as part of its fight against the spread of the new coronavirus, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said after the number of daily infections rose to its highest level this year.
Turkey, with a population of 83 million, has carried out 10.56 million vaccinations since January 14, when the national campaign in the country with vaccines against Covid-19 started, developed by the Chinese Sinovac Biotech Ltd.
“If we can vaccinate 50 million of our population before the autumn, as we plan, the pandemic will no longer be a heavy burden for us,” Kotza said in a statement broadcast live on television on the anniversary. from the first Covid-19 case recorded in Turkey.
Turkey counts 2.82 million reported coronavirus cases and more than 29,000 people have died due to Covid-19 disease, according to data from the country’s Ministry of Health.
According to Koca, 42 Turkish provinces have been assessed as low and moderate risk areas, while 39 provinces are classified as high or very high risk areas.
The number of new infections rose to 14,556 yesterday, the highest since the end of 2020 and almost double compared to levels a month ago.
