Israel has ordered 100,000 Pfizer pills against coronavirus, called Paxlovid, for people 12 and older who are at risk of serious illness, an Israeli official told Reuters on Saturday.

Channel 12 reported that Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett had reached an agreement in a telephone conversation with Pfizer CEO Albert Burla. There was no immediate confirmation from the company.

It is recalled that the Paxlovid pill is almost 90% effective in preventing hospitalization and death in patients at high risk of serious illness, according to data from the Pfizer clinical trial. Recent laboratory data show that the drug retains its effectiveness against the Omicron variant, the company said.
