In the last 24 hours in Italy the new cases of coronavirus are 57,890, while 320 people lost their lives due to complications of Covid-19. According to the Italian media, 55 deaths added to today’s report concern patients who lost the battle for life in the previous days.
In total, 538,131 diagnostic tests were performed today, 10.7% of which were positive.
There are 1,037 patients with Covid-19 in the intensive care units of the country, 36 less than yesterday Wednesday. There are 14,562 patients in the hospital wards (ie 565 less compared to the previous 24 hours).
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 12,265,343 people in the country have been infected and 151,962 patients have died. At this stage, the positive for the virus is 1,480,113.
According to Professor Matteo Bassetti, director of the Infectious Diseases Unit at San Martino Hospital in Genoa, “including more than 95% of the population vaccinated and treated with the virus at this stage, it enjoys substantial protection.”
“If we do not want to call it ‘herd immunity’ because this virus is mutating, we can call it ‘safety immunity.’
The Draghi government, meanwhile, continues to relax protection measures, given the “green light” by the Italian parliament. From March 10, you will be able to visit your relatives in the hospital again, for 45 minutes a day, including the ICU. Anyone who has had three doses of the vaccine will not need a negative diagnostic test.
From the same day, the cafes inside theaters and cinemas will also reopen. According to the press, in the coming days the occupancy of the stadiums will increase to 75% and if the cases continue to decrease, from the beginning of April the occupancy is likely to return to 100%.
