Coronavirus: More than 1,000 new cases in China, more restrictions are coming

More restrictive measures are under consideration as China reports more than 1,000 new coronavirus cases for the first time since May 20..

The country registered 1,012 new cases of coronavirus for July 19of which 150 were symptomatic and 862 asymptomatic, according to the National Health Commission (CNS).

Beijingthe capital of China, reported a new local symptomatic case. Shanghai reported five new local symptomatic cases.

Amid the rising coronavirus count, angst against authorities also grew after it was reported that 84 homes in an apartment complex in Guangzhou city’s Liwan district had been opened in an effort to find any “close contacts” hidden inside and for disinfecting the facilities.

However, authorities in southern China have apologized for breaking into the homes of people who had been moved to a quarantined hotel. Those affected by the breakups have been informed that they will be compensated for the damages.

China maintains a strict “covid zero” policy despite its rising economic costs. If cases continue to rise at this rate, new lockdowns in Beijing and Shanghai will not be surprising.
