Coronavirus – Netherlands: Experts suggest strict lockdown to stop Homicron mutation

Experts in contact with the government seem to have made a suggestion for a strict lockdown Ολλανδίας, wanting to put a “brake” on the spread of the Omicron mutation.

The RTL Nieuws television network and the NRC Handelsblad newspaper cited sources within the team of experts and broadcast that recommended the closure of all stores, except necessary.

Health Minister Hugo de Jong told reporters outside the cabinet meeting hall that he felt “Great concern” on its rapid dispersion Omicron mutation.

“I will not say what additional measures may be needed”, de Jong said, adding, however, that the government would follow the experts’ recommendations.

The government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte is expected to meet with its health advisers tomorrow, ahead of a decision on imposing new measures.

The government announced on Tuesday that the closure of bars, restaurants and most shops from 5 pm to 5 am, which entered into force at the end of November, will remain in force until 14 January.

In addition, Primary schools will close earlier in the holidays due to the high number of infections among children.

Today, the National Institutes of Health (RIVM) announced 15,433 new cases of Covid-19, a number about 25% lower than a week earlier, but above the peak of any other wave.
