Coronavirus outbreaks in Asia exceed 100 million – Omicron resurgence

More than 100 million are coronavirus cases in Asiaaccording to a Reuters report, as there is a resurgence of the epidemic in the region mainly due to the Omicron 2 variant of coronavirus. In Asia, where more than half of the world’s population lives, it accounts for 21% of all reported cases worldwide.

More than one million new cases of covid-19 are reported in the region about every two days, according to a Reuters analysis, as broadcast by the Athens News Agency.

The highly contagious Omicron 2 variant has caused a rapid rise in cases in recent weeks in countries such as South Korea, China and Vietnam. This variant is responsible for almost 86% of the recorded cases, according to the World Health Organization.

South Korea has the highest number of infections: one in four cases reported daily in the world.

THE China has been trying to deal with the worst wave of the epidemic in two years. More than 45,000 cases have been reported in the country since the beginning of the year, more than it had announced in 2021.

In India alone, 43 million cases of covid-19 have been detected, more than the total of the other three most affected countries in Asia – Japan, South Korea and Vietnam.

Earlier in March it exceeded the limit of one million deaths by covid-19 in Asia.
