Coronavirus – Poland: More than 100,000 dead – Only 55.8% of the population has been fully vaccinated

The account of its victims coronavirus in Poland broke the 100,000 barrier on Tuesday (11/1), as the reluctance of a large portion of the population to vaccinated and the reluctance of many to comply with the restrictive measures sparked an outbreak of infections, according to officials and doctors in the country.

The death rate per million inhabitants was among them last week higher worldwide (57), according to “Our World in Data” by the University of Oxford. In the US the same index is calculated at 35 and in Russia at 37, notes the Reuters agency.

“Today we can say that it is another sad day, especially because we have overcome the barrier of 100,000 deaths by Covid-19,” said the Minister of Health. Adam Nijelski on the TVN 24.

In Poland, fully vaccinated against Covid-19 correspond to just 55,8% population, one of the lowest rates in the European Union, where the average is 68,7%, rebroadcasts the APE BPE.

After all, the government was reluctant to follow the example of other European countries and take strict measures against the spread of coronavirus. “Poland is the country with perhaps the lowest willingness to be vaccinated in all of Europe, and this was evident from the flu vaccinations,” Nidzelski admitted.

Stricter measures are being considered

THE Konstanti Suldrzinski, a doctor and scientific adviser to the government, told Reuters that the low vaccination coverage rate is only one part of the problem, with scarce health resources exacerbating the situation.

The existing restrictions are not being applied with due rigor, he added. “We do not use Covid certificates and controls on compliance with restrictive measures are flawed. The citizens not wear masks and do not avoid overcrowding “either indoors or outdoors,” he notes.

The Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki said on Tuesday that stricter measures are being considered for the unvaccinated. The country is facing a steadily high number of new cases on a daily basis. Despite the fact that no further increase has been recorded since the appearance of the Omicron variant, new restrictive measures were imposed in December.

Until Monday, the Ministry of Health estimated that 7-8% of daily cases was related to Omicron variant.

Today, Tuesday, Poland announced 11.406 new coronavirus cases and 493 deaths of patients from complications of Covid-19. At the end of December the number of victims within 24 hours reached 794, while the record from the beginning of the pandemic was 954 last April.
