Sweden will give a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to those over 65 to boost their body’s defenses against the disease, the country’s health service announced today.
“For people aged 65 and over, four months have now passed since the last dose and the protection provided by the vaccine is weakening over time,” the health service said in a statement.
Sweden has previously offered a fourth dose of the vaccine to citizens over the age of 80.
The country lifted almost all restrictions in early March.
It is difficult to measure the extent of the pandemic in Sweden as large-scale diagnostic tests have stopped, but the number of patients seeking ICU is the lowest in 18 months.
