Coronavirus – Turkey: Worst report in 9 months – More than 300 dead

The number of patients who died due to complications of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours in Turkey, according to official data from the Ministry of Health. This is the worst report in over 9 months. 356 deaths in a 24-hour period were recorded on May 5, according to Reuters.

The number of new infections with coronavirus announced by the Turkish Ministry of Health for the same period was 94,730.

At the end of December the new cases of the virus fluctuated daily around 20,000but after the advent of highly contagious Omicron variant an increase is recorded, exceeding even 110,000 earlier this month, reports the APE BPE.

In this context, the Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca especially urged the elderly and those suffering from underlying diseases to be extremely careful and to adhere faithfully to the precautions against the virus. “The fact that Omicron infections generally have milder symptoms does not mean that everything is fine. “Let us not forget that the number of deaths is high,” Kotza wrote in a Twitter post.

In terms of vaccination program: 57.58 million people have been vaccinated with a single dose, 52.65 million have been fully vaccinated and 26.36 million have received the so-called booster dose.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Covid-19 has caused death 5.82 million people in 192 countries of the world, while infections are estimated in total in 413.74 million worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University.
