Coronavirus – USA: 70% of adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine

With a month delay, the USA achieved the goal set by the president Joe Biden at the beginning of the year: now, the 70% of adult Americans has made at least one dose of it vaccine for coronavirus.

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that 60,6% of adults and the 49,7% of the entire population has been vaccinated fully.

Biden had initially set a goal of achieving that 70% by July 4, for symbolic reasons, so that the “victory day” of the pandemic coincides with the US national holiday. But the slowdown in the immunization campaign, especially in the traditionally “conservative” southern and midwestern States, but also among the young, poorer and minorities, has resulted in delayed its achievement, as transmitted by ΑΠΕ ΜΠΕ.

In recent weeks, however, vaccinations have increased in the areas most affected by the new wave of Covid-19, which is largely caused by the more contagious Delta variant. Significant increases in vaccinations are recorded in Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and Florida.

It is noted that on average, the cases nationwide amount to around 60,000 daily. However, as it has already been fully vaccinated 80% of individuals over 65 years, hospitalizations and deaths increase by much more slow pace, compared to previous waves of the pandemic.

It is recalled, moreover, that the federal health services are considering the possibility of granting and third dose of the vaccine in some citizens, such as the immunocompromised. The CDC after all, they restored the recommendation to use the mask indoors, even by those who have been vaccinated, in those areas where many cases are recorded.
