Coronavirus vaccination has reached Antarctica

Now we can say that the covid-19 vaccine has reached the ends of the earth: In Antarctic 49 people, members of the armed forces, investigators and civil servants stationed at a military base received the first dose of the vaccine.

Antarctica is the last continent where a young man was diagnosed coronavirus. For months, the area covered by snow and ice most of the time remained unharmed by the pandemic, thanks to strict control measures and the cancellation of all tourist visits, as reminded by AMPE.

All non-essential staff were removed when the pandemic broke out, and it was also decided to ban all contact between the personnel of the military and the scientific bases stationed there.

However An outbreak of 36 people was identified on December 21st, among the 26 military, to be attacked by SARS-CoV-2 based on the Chilean Armed Forces.

Additional doses of vaccine received late last week from the Punta Arena, 3,500 kilometers from Santiago, are expected to allow staff at two other bases to be immunized.

However, due to the weather conditions, have not yet been able to surrender.

Chile (population 19 million) exceeded the limit of five million citizens who received at least one dose of the new coronavirus vaccine on Tuesday, two weeks earlier than the deadline set by the government.
