Coronavirus vaccine: 16-17 year olds take turns in Belgium

The green light in the vaccination of young 16-17 years with Pfizer / Biontech vaccine gave the Belgian inter-ministerial health conference.

Priority will be given to those who have underlying diseases, while the rest aged 16-17 years will be vaccinated after those over 18 years. Depending on the rate of integration of young people in the vaccination campaign and depending on the traditions of vaccines, it is estimated that 16-17 year olds will be invited to be vaccinated at the end of July, according to the Belgian Vaccination Action Group, as broadcast by AMPE.

The Belgian Health Ministers also asked the Vaccination Action Group to look into the possibility that people under the age of 41 could receive, on a voluntary basis, the AstraZeneca vaccines or Johnson & Johnson. The aim is to maintain the pace of the vaccination campaign. It is recalled that in Belgium these two vaccines are only given to people over 41 years of age, due to rare but serious side effects (thrombosis).

Finally, in view of the threatened emergence of the Indian mutation, the Belgian Vaccination Action Group consider reducing the interval between two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from 12 to 8 weeks.
