Coronavirus variants scare Cuba: New negative case record

The Cuban Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 3,591 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the past 24 hours, an unprecedented number since the outbreak of the health crisis and a second record in a few days, while another 15 patients with COVID-19 died. .

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in the Caribbean has reached 1,387 deaths out of a total of 210,913 infections.

The western province of Matansa (874 cases in 24 hours) is now the epicenter of the pandemic, with the incidence rate reaching 1,226.3 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

Health Minister Jose Πορngel Portal pointed out that the increase in infections is due to – and is complicated by – the fact that more infectious variants of the new coronavirus are circulating in the country.

Brazil: 1,780 deaths and over 62,500 cases in 24 hours

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that another 1,780 COVID-19 patients had died in the past 24 hours and another 62,504 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed.

Brazil, the largest country in Latin America with a population of 212 million, counts at this stage 526,892 deaths out of a total of almost 19 million infections, according to official data, which experts describe as underestimated.

This is the second heaviest death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic and the third highest number of infections in the world.

Mexico: 269 deaths and almost 8,000 cases in 24 hours

The Mexican Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that another 269 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours and another 7,989 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed.

According to official data, the death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic has reached 233,958 dead so far out of a total of 2,549,862 infections.

But the Mexican government acknowledges that the official record, the 4th heaviest in the world, is undervalued. Data on over-mortality released by the Ministry of Health last week showed, for the second time this year, that deaths due to COVID-19 are actually almost 60% more than confirmed.

Tunisia: Over 455,000 cases exceeded 15,600 deaths

The Tunisian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 7,930 SARS-CoV-2 infections had been confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of reported cases to 455,091.

At the same time, the deaths of 119 patients with COVID-19 increased the official death toll to 15,601.

Italy: 24 deaths and 907 cases in 24 hours

Another 48 patients with COVID-19 died, bringing the death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic to 91,110 so far, according to the same source.
