Coronavirus: Which state caught 99% in the vaccination of its inhabitants

Announcement for the state with higher percentage vaccination against coronavirus on the planet issued by Red Cross, calling on its neighbors to follow suit. The reason for the small island state Palau in the Pacific Ocean, where the 99% Residents over the age of 12 – 16,152 people – have been fully immunized, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (IFRC), citing government figures.

With this percentage the Palau, an archipelago of 500 islands in the western Pacific, is “in the first place”, according to the IFRC, ahead of states such as Portugal, which is considered one of the countries with the highest rate of vaccination against covid-19, as in September it managed to immunize 80% of its 10 million inhabitants.

Coronavirus: What happens in other small states

The situation in Palau is also in stark contrast to other small states in the region, where the vaccination campaign is delayed due to a lack of vaccines and the reluctance of residents. Less than 10% of the inhabitants of Solomon Islands (with a total population of 650,000 people) and Kiribati (with a total population of 119,000 people) have been vaccinated.

In Papua New Guinea, 150 kilometers north of Australia, less than 1% of the population is fully immunized, the IFRC said, citing data from Our World Data. The need to increase the vaccination rate in the region is intensifying due to the impending start of the cyclone season in the Pacific, as reported by APE-MPE.

Palau is not the only Pacific island nation to lead the covid-19 vaccination. In Cook Islands (17,000 inhabitants) the 96% of the population that can be vaccinated has been fully immunized, while in Fiji islands (896,000 inhabitants) the 96% of the vaccinated population has received a single dose, the IFRC said.
