The corporate travel sector ended the third quarter of this year with revenues of R$3.3 billion – an amount 11.6% higher than in the same period in 2019, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The data are part of the most recent bulletin, released this Thursday (27), by the Brazilian Association of Corporate Travel Agencies (Abracorp). According to the survey, 9 of the 11 sectors surveyed outperformed when compared to 2019.
The main highlight was the airline segment, responsible for 66% of the sector’s total revenue in the period. In practice, spending on plane tickets alone represented more than R$ 2.2 billion between July and September.
Hotel costs are responsible for more than 24% of the corporate travel sector’s revenue, with a total value of R$ 828 million in the third quarter of the year. In the same three months of 2019, the amount spent on accommodation was BRL 762 million.
Abracorp’s executive president, Gervásio Tanabe, points to the country’s economic recovery as a factor responsible for the good performance of the corporate travel sector. He highlighted the greater control of Brazilian inflation, which lowers the price of tourism services, and the lower unemployment rate, which dropped to 8.7% in the third quarter, as pillars of the best outlook for the segment.
“With the vaccination against Covid-19 and the improvement of the economic scenario in Brazil, we need to highlight, mainly, the recovery of travel abroad, which is being resumed with force. Although some destinations still have reasonably lower supply, it is already possible to clearly see this improvement”, said Tanabe.
