Traditionally celebrated in the country, Corpus Christi is not a national holiday. The Federal Government classifies the date as an optional period, when there is no obligation to take time off, but states and municipalities have their own legislation on the subject and many consider the date as a holiday.
In the city of São Paulo, for example, Corpus Christi is a public holiday. In Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, the date is optional. Traditionally celebrated on a Thursday 60 days after Easter, in 2024 the date will be May 30th.
In addition to Corpus Christi Day, the Federal Government determined that Friday, the 31st, will also be an optional day for federal employees, a measure followed by some states. Ideal setting for those who like to combine holidays and weekends.

Difference between holiday and optional point
While the worker's day off is mandatory on holidays, on the optional day, companies and public administration can decide whether employees will work or not, according to their own assessments.
In the case of holidays, employees of services considered essential can work when they have subsequent compensation, such as time off or double the amount for the day worked. This group includes workers in social services, health, transport and commerce, among others.
