The advance of the Correios privatization project —today stalled in the Federal Senate after being approved in the Chamber—, could accelerate the growth process of the postal service and allow the company to modernize, which is difficult to happen if it remains a state-owned company , according to Ricardo Barros, federal deputy (PP-PR) and government leader in the Chamber.
“The company has a high potential for increasing market share, people want modernity. It’s a very important company, but it doesn’t have to be state-owned. Amazon, for example, went from 150,000 employees to 1.6 million worldwide in four years, showing that the logistics sector has great growth potential, and (the Post Office) could be taking advantage of this”, said Barros in an interview. on CNN this Sunday (20).
The transition team of the elected government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced on Friday that one of its priorities will be to end the privatization proposal for the Postal Service, which is currently being discussed in the Federal Senate, and announced that it has a meeting scheduled with the state-owned company on Tuesday.
“It is natural that the Workers’ Party, being of unionist origin, wants to review the privatization process, as they want to review the labor reform and other issues in which we have advanced in recent years. But I think they can reformulate, just as Lula is reformulating his thinking about fiscal responsibility”, said Barros.
