The Post Office collected 1,500 tons in donations for people affected by the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul. In four days, more than 1,000 tons have already been delivered to the states' Civil Defense.
“We have many donation boxes coming from various states in Brazil. The Post Office is collecting donations from people and here the organization takes place to take them to the entire population in need”, explained the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho, that the distribution of donations transported to the Canoas Air Base (RS), this Wednesday -Friday (09).
The state-owned company received more than a thousand volunteer applications to work on sorting donations that will be allocated to victims of the rains. The support is intended for the municipalities of Cajamar (SP) and Guarulhos (SP), in the Federal District, Curitiba (PR), Cascavel (PR) and Londrina (PR).
The entire network of Correios branches in the Northeast, Southeast and South regions and in the Federal District is receiving donations of water, which is currently the priority input. Food from the basic food basket, personal hygiene supplies, dry cleaning supplies, bed and bath linen and pet food are also being accepted.
To donate, simply go to one of the agencies and deliver the donation. Transportation is free, that is, at no cost to the donor. The company asks that whoever is donating packs and identifies the type of material — even though this is not a requirement for the donation.
The orientation is that the population of the Southeast and South concentrates donations of drinking water and the people of the Northeast, of dry items, such as food, dry cleaning material, personal hygiene material and food from the basic basket.
