COSMOTE: 80% 5G coverage until the end of 2022

COSMOTE achieved the goal of 60% nationwide coverage of COSMOTE 5G, just one year after the launch of the 5th generation network that it first brought to Greece. COSMOTE sets a new goal to provide 5G coverage to 80% of the population by the end of 2022.

Already from the first months of operation of COSMOTE 5G, the increase of the coverage proceeded at a fast pace with the result that the initial goal for 50% population coverage, to be upgraded during the year to 60%. Thanks to the company’s investments and the intensive work of its technicians, the goal was achieved. Today, COSMOTE 5G is the largest 5th generation network in the country, with coverage in Athens and Thessaloniki having already exceeded 97% and 90% respectively. Maximum network speeds exceed 1Gbps in certain areas.

The expansion of COSMOTE 5G continues at a rapid pace in the Greek territory, aiming to reach 80% population coverage by the end of 2022. Recent additions to the areas enjoying the experience of COSMOTE 5G, are: Argolida, Aspropyrgos Attica, Viotia Elefsina, Zakynthos, Cephalonia, Kozani, Corinth, Messinia, South Evia, Skyros and Chalkida. By the end of 2022, the network will be further expanded to Dodecanese, Ikaria, Crete Peloponnese, Samos and Central Greece.

More than 250,000 COSMOTE subscribers with 5G device

Thanks to the cooperation with the largest device manufacturers, COSMOTE currently has the largest range of certified 5G devices in Greece, which reach 68. Combined with the continuous expansion of the 5th generation network in new areas, COSMOTE subscribers have a certified 5G device and can enjoy the speeds and capabilities of COSMOTE 5G, exceeding 250,000 across the country.

5G speeds abroad as well

In addition, COSMOTE ensures that its subscribers have access to the 5G experience abroad through 5G Roaming, ensuring cooperation with networks of more and more countries. COSMOTE is the first provider in Greece to enter into agreements with foreign networks for 5G Roaming as early as December 2020 and has secured for its subscribers agreements for 5G networking with networks from 41 countries around the world. At the same time, the huge possibilities of COSMOTE 5G can be enjoyed by the visitors in Greece from 44 countries.
