COSMOTE: Fiber optics has reached 650,000 homes and businesses

650,000 households and businesses across Greece have access to 100% fiber optic home (FTTH) through COSMOTE Fiber, the largest fiber optic network in the country. Accelerating the implementation of its investment plan to upgrade the country, which exceeds 3 billion euros, the OTE Group is moving forward to cover about 2/3 of the country’s fiber optic lines, bringing FTTH to 1 million households and businesses in 2022, and 3 million by 2027. This is the largest investment made in recent decades in Greece for telecommunications infrastructure.

At the same time, the Group’s initiative for the free upgrade of fixed broadband internet speeds for COSMOTE customers is being implemented quickly, where this is technologically possible. More than 750,000 home and corporate customers, in areas where fiber optics have not yet reached home and business, will see fixed broadband Internet speeds upgrade for free to the next commercially available speed, in 2022, and according to EETT approvals. Customers do not need to take any action. They will be informed, immediately after the completion of the upgrade, through the fixed account, of the My COSMOTE App and by text message (sms). The gear upgrade has already been implemented for 210,000 customers, ie about 30% of the connections that can be upgraded.

The two initiatives of the OTE Group for the expansion of FTTH and the immediate upgrade of the speeds, upgrade the country, radically change the daily life and create new perspectives for the digital development. They will make a decisive contribution to the success of the Digital Transformation Book 2020-2025 and the National Broadband Plan 2021-2027, but also to the significant improvement of Greece’s deviation from the average of the European Digital Economy and Society index, DESI. The strategic plan of the Group, with which the country is changing speed, was announced last December to the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, by the CEO of Deutsche Telekom Group, Mr. Tim Höttges and the President and CEO of OTE Group, Mr. Michalis Tsamaz.

“The OTE Group is building the infrastructure that will meet the digital needs of the country for the next decades and will move it forward. “We are upgrading speeds where it is technologically feasible. These are two major projects of great importance to the country. OTE Group – CEO of CTS, Mr. Stefanos Theocharopoulos.

New COSMOTE Fiber campaign

The benefits of the development of the FTTH network, the complexity of the project, but also the utilization of the current possibilities of the COSMOTE Fiber network through the upgrade of the speeds, are presented through the new TV spot of COSMOTE, with its technicians as “protagonists”. The people who with passion, faith and dedication to the customer and his needs, implement the project that is changing speed in the country. Because a world faster for everyone is a better world for everyone.
