Costa Crociere turns 75: all the events

Costa Crociere celebrate 75 years of navigationa long and glorious history which is also ours: it was the 31 March 1948 the motor ship «Anna C» left Genoa towards Buenos Aires with 768 passengers on board. Today Costa Crociere, part of Carnival Corporation & plc Groupis one of the best-known companies in the world, with a fleet of 10 ships and 18 thousand employees worldwide.

For its celebrations, Costa wanted to remember that its success also comes from its bond with others, with travellers, employees, the city in which it stops. Genoa of course, with which Costa lives hand in hand, and so Savona from which most of its ships depart. And he wanted to do it with a program of events from 19 to 27 October which also descends into the city.

On the evening of October 20th the celebration is – naturally – on board, on the ship Tuscan coast: the flagship of the fleet, and the largest, docked at the port of Genoa, will host 400 people for a cocktail party in collaboration with Vanity Fair with one showcase by Malika Ayane. The menu will be signed by Bruno Barbieriaccompanied by the bubbles of Ferrari Trentowho created a personalized label to toast 75 years of Costa Crociere.

The evening continues opening up to the city, with the Monumental Tour by French DJ Michael Canitrotat 9.00 pm Piazza Matteottiwith the patronage of the Municipality of Genoa and the Liguria Region, for a show that combines electronic music, cultural heritage and digital art, an exceptional show of electronic music and digital art which, for the first time, with the patronage of the Municipality of Genoa and the Liguria Region, arrives in Italy precisely at Ducal Palace of Genoa: the main facade of the building, on Piazza Matteotti, will come alive in a spectacular way with a show of images and lights, which will have Genoa, its history and the sea as their theme, while spectators will dance to the engaging rhythm of electronic music. Palazzo Ducale will thus become the first artistic monument in Italy to be the protagonist of this show, after the Palais-Royal in Paris, the City Hall of Lisbon, the cathedral of Laon, the castle of Chantilly, Mont Saint-Michel.

«On the occasion of this special anniversary we want to experience equally unique emotions together with the city of Genoa, with a wonderful show in one of the most representative squares of the city. But also to continue to be good citizens of the Genoese community in which we were born, bringing a smile and concrete help to the people most in difficulty” – he declared Mario Zanetti, CEO of Costa Crociere. In fact, the celebrations began on the 19th with a lunch for the Community of Sant’Egidio: the Corporate Chef of Costa Crociere, Antonio Brizziwith the participation of the chef Bruno Barbierihelped by volunteers from the Community of Sant’Egidio and employees of the company’s Genoa headquarters, prepared a lunch for approximately 150 guests of the Community: families with children and elderly people in difficulty, and people without a home, who live the harsh reality of the streets every day. Costa Cruises Foundation claims the Community of Sant’Egidio since 2015, within a food assistance project which to date has seen the distribution of approximately 1 million meals.

«We are happy that Costa has decided to organize a great series of initiatives to share and celebrate this milestone also with the Genoese. Best wishes to Costa Crociere for many more years of success alongside Italy and our city”, he declared Marco Bucci, Mayor of Genoa. But Costa is close to another important institution in the city: theGaslini Hospital. Monday 23 October, Angelo Pintus will propose his show to Politeama Genovesestarting at 9pm and the entire proceeds of the evening will be donated to charityGaslini Hospital of Genoa. Costa will double the total amount, adding a donation equal to the evening’s proceeds.

A second moment dedicated to the Gaslini Hospital will be Friday 27 October: a group of small hospital patients and their families they will board Costa Toscana, in Genoa, for a day discovering the flagship of the Italian company, with special entertainment activities and a lunch designed specifically for them. To keep them company too Mattia Villardita «SpiderMan»the man who, disguised as the famous superhero, brings a smile to children hospitalized in hospital wards throughout Italy.

Finally, Costa will be the brand sponsor of 40th annual meeting of the ANCI, the National Association of Italian Municipalities, which will be held at the Blue Pavilion of the Genoa Fair from 24 to 26 October. As part of this event, on 25 October Costa will propose a workshop dedicated to «Coast Guards», the national environmental education and “citizen science” project promoted by the Costa foundation, aimed in particular at young people.
