Costantino Seghi, debut with Riccardo Scamarcio: “As a child I was about to drown to imitate Orlando Bloom”

Some firsts are absolutely to be forgotten. Costantino Seghi, a 21-year-old Florentine, on the other hand, has been experiencing many in these weeks and all of them are memorable. The last, in chronological order, is the interview with Vanity Fair: never before had he spoken to the press and the opportunity comes with another debut. It’s about the movie The shadow of the day by Giuseppe Piccioni, alongside Riccardo Scamarcio and Benedetta Porcaroli, from 24 February to the cinema.

The very young actor with an angel’s face and precise ideas is in Tuscany, but he is still commuting between his parents’ house and Rome (“I have a mini-studio apartment”, he points out immediately). The voice on the other end of the phone arrives relaxed, self-confident, without a shred of anxiety and hesitation, in short, like a seasoned artist. We can bet, we will hear about him for a long time to come. And in May Stefano Mordini’s set awaits him for the new project, also produced by Scamarcio.

How was your passion for cinema born?
«After high school, when I decided to study acting, but as a child I already imitated the scenes of the films. And one day as a child during a trip on the lake on a small boat, I jumped into the water to repeat the line of a scene from The Pirates of the Caribbean, in which Orlando Bloom / Will Turner is told: ‘Bon voyage, monsieur’. They had to save me because I was about to drown. ‘

Was he the life of the party?
«Not at all, on the contrary I was very shy, I am nostalgic and at times melancholy. I would rather define myself as a loose cannon ».

With all due respect to his family. Are they artists?
«Mum and my sister are doctors, the other sister is an architect and my father is an engineer. I amazed them with the decision to be an actor, perhaps a little unconscious and without a plan B. Someone said that if you have one in reserve it means that in the end you have already chosen to use it and I have none. intention”.

Time has proved her right, seeing her debut film.
“I was very lucky to start with an arthouse film and with incredible actors. It was a testing ground that made me fall in love with this life because I understood what it means to make art. I arrived on the set on tiptoe and then I melted. I usually like to be ready without asking, I observe a lot, but without acting like a fan. Indeed, a climate of great mutual respect was immediately created between us ».

Do you have an actor who inspires you?
“Nobody in particular, but because of my blond hair, I’ve been told at times that I look like Leonardo DiCaprio or Edward Norton.”

Have you ever touched the idea of Hollywood?
“I’m perfecting my English by studying in a language school in Rome, I would like to try abroad to play my cards, as they tell me that I don’t look like an Italian boy, because of my blue eyes and hair blonde. In fact, this summer I will be an au pair in England ».

Favorite movie saga?
The Lord of the Rings, one of the few that does not disregard the expectations of the books and with which I was obsessed with the Playstation. Now they are making a TV series and who knows if I can’t apply to do a little part, a little elf would be fine too ».

No superhero?
“As a kid I had the Spider-Man poster with Tobey Maguire in my rooms, which remains my favorite even though I have great affection for the other two.”

Another passion that makes your heart beat?
“The music. During the pandemic a year ago, my sister taught me to play the piano and the notes helped me survive, they are my catharsis. It is no coincidence that La La Land remains my favorite film. Singing, on the other hand, is a whole other story ».

Are you a sportsman?
“As a boy I practiced athletics at a competitive level, also obtaining good results at the national level and still today running is one of my daily activities because it helps me to clear my mind”.

No football?
“I’m a moderate Juventus fan, but not a football fan”.

With two doctors at home he will have experienced the pandemic in an even more amplified way. How did she go?
«Mom is an anesthetist and works in the Covid departments, she was on the front line and I would like to have her moral stature and that warrior spirit, almost like a robot, which never makes others weigh anything. Dad too is one who does not complain about the sacrifices and efforts to provide for the family. Of my sisters, on the other hand, I admire the irony, a trait we have in common ».

Are you ready for fame?
“I am an unknown vehicle but if it were to arrive it will not be a burden, in fact I too asked for a photo and an autograph once, it is a beautiful thing even if today I would not do it again”.
