The Indigenous Missionary Council (Cimi) estimates that there are 867 indigenous lands impacted by the time frame judgment in the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
This is the number of lands that, according to the agency, have administrative pending issues, as they are not yet registered with a registry office or with the Union Heritage Secretariat (SPU).
The number includes:
- Lands and territorial claims without any measures: 588
- Identified lands (analyzed by Funai, but awaiting order from the Ministry of Justice): 46
- Lands already declared by the Ministry of Justice: 65
- Lands “to be identified”: 146
- Lands with Restriction Ordinance due to the presence of people in voluntary isolation: 6
- Lands already approved, but not yet registered with the Union Heritage Secretariat: 16
The data appears in the Report “Violence against Indigenous Peoples in Brazil” published by Cimi in 2022.
The report also lists the states with the most pending land, led by Amazonas:
- Amazon (223)
- Mato Grosso do Sul (151)
- Rio Grande do Sul (78)
- Mato Grosso (55)
- Pará (53)
- Paraná (35)
- São Paulo (33)
- Ceará (31)
- Bahia (30)
- Rondônia (28)
- Santa Catarina (22)
- Minas Gerais (19)
- Pernambuco (17)
The Federal District has land that can be claimed. In the Cimi report it is called “Fazenda Bananal/Santuário dos Pajés” and points out the location as Setor Noroeste, one of which has seen intense furniture investment in recent years in the federal capital.
In the state of São Paulo, the vast majority of cities are coastal, but in the municipality of São Paulo there is a village in an area that borders São Bernardo do Campo, São Vicente and Mongaguá.
The village is called Tenondé Porã and belongs to the Guarany Mbya people. It falls under the “already declared” condition.
Another village is on the border of the capital of São Paulo with Osasco. The land is called Jaraguá and belongs to the Guarani people.
Among the large cities that appear on the list are:
- Uberlândia (MG)
- Dourados (MS)
- Campo Grande, MS)
- London (PR)
- Curitiba (PR)
- Teresina (PI)
